"markdown": "Methodology\n\n# See how patients find your clinic. Know what to improve.\n\n**Methodology basis reviewed by Boris Teplyakov, SEO Lead.** Last reviewed July 27, 2026.\n\nExecutive decision\n\n## Know where discovery breaks and who owns the fix\n\nThe report shows which service, market or location is absent, which competitor or source appears instead, what to improve first and how success will be checked.\n\n## Business path\n\n01\n\nPatient sees a provider through Google AI Overviews or ChatGPT + Gemini.\n\n02\n\nThe answer may lead to an owned clinic page or a later provider search.\n\n03\n\nWhen available, the clinic shares aggregate qualified, booked and attended consultation data so we can evaluate which queries and prompts attract better-fit traffic.\n\n04\n\nMentions and citations are leading signals. Patient actions are the business outcome.\n\nFrom discovery to qualified traffic\n\n## Separate AI presence from patient actions\n\nWe record whether the clinic appears while patients compare services, specialists and providers in AI answers. Approved aggregate referral and enquiry data may add context, but a mention does not establish that an answer caused a visit or booking.\n\n## Patient discovery chain\n\n01\n\nA patient asks ChatGPT or Gemini about a condition, treatment method, procedure, medical device or specialist.\n\n02\n\nThe conversation moves from an informational prompt to more specific options, providers or next steps.\n\n03\n\nThe answer may name providers and link to clinic or independent pages; those visible references are recorded.\n\n04\n\nWhen approved aggregate tracking exists, referral visits and enquiries are reported separately from AI visibility.\n\nTwo service tracks\n\n## Measure Google AI Overviews and assistants separately\n\n01\n\n### Google AI Overviews\n\nTrigger rate, named clinics, citations, competitor presence and what the answer says about your clinic.\n\n02\n\n### ChatGPT + Gemini Visibility\n\nMentions, recommendations, sources, repeatability and what assistants say about your clinic.\n\nMarket language\n\n## Run patient questions in the language of the market\n\nWe build questions and prompts in the language patients use in the priority market. A client or approved language reviewer can validate terminology and intent for higher precision, but the audit can proceed without that additional review.\n\n> German · dental · Graz\n>\n> “Was kostet ein Zahnimplantat in Graz?”\n\n> English · bariatric · London\n>\n> “Which bariatric clinic offers long-term follow-up in London?”\n\nWorkflow\n\n## From questions to prioritized improvements\n\n1. 01\n\n ### Define\n\n Select priority services, markets, patient languages, search queries and AI prompts around the clinic and patient journey.\n2. 02\n\n ### Record\n\n Save starting results from Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT + Gemini.\n3. 03\n\n ### Diagnose\n\n Show where the clinic already appears, where competitors appear instead and which pages or sources shape the result.\n4. 04\n\n ### Prioritize\n\n Put improvements in order by expected impact, practical effort and confidence in the evidence.\n5. 05\n\n ### Test again\n\n Repeat the same queries and prompts after approved changes and record what changed.\n\nAI metrics\n\n## Measure presence, recommendation and sentiment\n\nThe report shows whether the clinic appears, how it is described, what sources support the answer and where competitors appear instead.\n\n### Mentions\n\nHow often tested answers name the clinic.\n\n### Recommendations\n\nHow often the clinic is presented as an option, not merely referenced.\n\n### What the answer says\n\nPositive, neutral, negative or unclear description of the clinic.\n\n### Competitor presence\n\nWhich clinics appear where your clinic does not.\n\n### Sources used\n\nThe clinic and external pages that support the answer.\n\n### Missing questions\n\nPatient questions where the clinic or priority service is absent.\n\nRepeatable checks\n\n## Keep every result tied to its inputs\n\n### Recorded results\n\nEach saved result keeps the query or prompt, market, language, platform, capture date and visible source links.\n\n### Repeat checks\n\nHigh-impact or unstable ChatGPT + Gemini findings are checked again before they become priorities. No fixed public repeat count is promised.\n\n### Comparable checks\n\nLater checks reuse the same inputs. A platform, model or context change is marked before results are compared.\n\nComparison rules\n\n## Compare like with like\n\nInputs and platform context remain visible so different tests are not combined into one result.\n\n01\n\n### Inputs kept\n\nService, stage of choice, market, language, query or prompt and selected competitors.\n\n02\n\n### Context recorded\n\nPlatform, visible model, location, date and session or account state where relevant.\n\n03\n\n### Results counted\n\nRates use valid answers only. Failed, blocked or unavailable checks are shown separately.\n\n04\n\n### Change checked\n\nLater tests reuse the same inputs and record pass, fail or inconclusive against a stated criterion.\n\n**Mention rate** valid answers naming the clinic / all valid answers\n\n**Recommendation rate** valid answers presenting the clinic as an option / all valid answers\n\n**Share of voice** clinic mentions / all mentions of the clinic and selected competitors\n\nSeparate Google surfaces\n\n## An AI Overview is not an AI Mode result\n\nFor AI Overviews, first report how often an overview appears among technically valid Google searches. Report clinic presence among generated overviews with that denominator labelled. A valid search without an overview is not a failed capture.\n\n### Keep the comparison explicit\n\nIf AI Mode is included in the written scope, retain its own queries, captures, location settings and valid-answer counts. Do not pool it with AIO or claim the two are equivalent. A city written in a question is not proof of a controlled physical location.\n\nRecord browser, scraper, model API or CLI collection explicitly. A source link identifies visible evidence, not the hidden cause of a recommendation.\n\n[Google’s AI feature guidance ](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/ai-features)\n\nWorked example\n\n## From one question to a checked improvement\n\n1. 01\n\n ### Question\n\n “Was kostet ein Zahnimplantat in Graz?” for a clinic serving German-speaking patients in Graz.\n2. 02\n\n ### Observed result\n\n The clinic is absent from the captured answer. Named clinics and source pages are recorded.\n3. 03\n\n ### Gap\n\n Competitors have clearer pages about implants, the relevant specialist, price context and the Graz location.\n4. 04\n\n ### Improvement\n\n Improve the clinic page with the treatment, specialist, location, price context and source-backed medical claims.\n5. 05\n\n ### Test again\n\n Repeat the same query after the approved change and record what changed.\n\nMulti-location clinics\n\n## See weak services and locations separately\n\nA network summary is useful only when individual service and location results remain visible.\n\n## Reporting view\n\n01\n\nNetwork summary across Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT + Gemini\n\n02\n\nIndividual clinic, service, market and language results kept separately\n\n03\n\nPriority gaps shown without hiding them behind stronger locations\n\n04\n\nTest an improvement at one location before a wider rollout\n\nMedical claims by market\n\n## Keep medical content under clinic review\n\nWe identify search opportunities and prepare recommended changes. The clinic reviews and approves medical and legal statements before publication, with local market rules considered separately.\n\n## Review process\n\n01\n\nIdentify the market, service, audience and applicable clinic policy.\n\n02\n\nFlag medical claims, prescription references and before-and-after evidence.\n\n03\n\nThe clinic reviews claims, evidence and market-language wording.\n\n04\n\nPublish approved wording and retain the revision record.\n\n[European Commission: GDPR ](https://commission.europa.eu/law/law-topic/data-protection/information-individuals_en) [UK: CAP Code ](https://www.asa.org.uk/codes-and-rulings/advertising-codes/non-broadcast-code.html) [Germany: Heilmittelwerbegesetz ](https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/heilmwerbg/BJNR006049965.html) [Our data-security process ](https://rotgar.com/medical/data-security)\n\nMeasured\n\n## Observed result\n\nA directly captured search or AI result, or an approved analytics value.\n\nEstimated\n\n## Estimated opportunity\n\nA calculation based on stated assumptions, not a recorded outcome.\n\nExample\n\n## Report format\n\nIllustrative or generalized values used only to show the report structure.\n\nOptional aggregate website context\n\n## Public data is enough to start\n\nNo access is required. Dated Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Gemini captures provide the AI-visibility baseline. Optional read-only aggregate analytics or Search Console data can add website context; they do not replace direct AI captures or isolate every AI-driven visit.\n\n[Review optional access ](https://rotgar.com/medical/data-security)\n\n## What every report makes clear\n\n—\n\nAI answers can change between checks.\n\n—\n\nPlatform availability varies by market and account.\n\n—\n\nAI inclusion, citations and patient volume cannot be guaranteed.\n\n—\n\nMedical and legal claims remain under clinic review.\n\nOriginal Rotgar research\n\n## Do ChatGPT and Gemini cite the same sources as Google?\n\nExplore exact URL and domain overlap with Google’s top 20 results across US prompts formedical niches. Niche comparisons are descriptive because collection windows and modes differed.\n\n[Read the source-overlap study](https://rotgar.com/medical/resources/google-top-20-chatgpt-gemini-source-overlap)\n\nDiscuss the method\n\n## Define your clinic’s AI visibility scope\n\nTalk through the market, patient questions and evidence relevant to your clinic.\n\n[Book a 30-minute call](https://calendly.com/z-rotgar/30min)\n\nApply the method\n\n## Choose a service\n\n[Google AI Overviews](https://rotgar.com/medical/services/google-ai-overviews) [ChatGPT + Gemini Visibility](https://rotgar.com/medical/services/chatgpt-gemini)\n\nAI Visibility Audit\n\n## See where AI answers are missing your clinic\n\nThe AI visibility audit starts with one clinic or selected location, one priority market and one patient language.\n\n**Best fit** Clinics, hospitals and medical groups in:\n\n- Dental\n- Aesthetic medicine\n- Physiotherapy\n- Fertility & IVF\n- Dermatology\n- Hair transplant\n- Cosmetic plastic surgery\n- Mental health\n- Multi-specialty groups\n\n- Your current visibility and named competitors\n- The sources AI answers cite\n- A prioritized list of improvements to implement\n\nNeed to cover several clinics, locations, countries, markets or patient languages?
